FASTASY AND REALITY – these were showcased by the Senior High School students as the department held its first ever intramural celebration with the theme, “HEROES OF OUR GENERATION: Venturing Fantasy and Reality Using Our Unique Damean Excellence and High-Calibre Imagination”. Commenced last October 11 and concluded last October 14, 2017, the said four-day celebration was given a name SIBOL 2017 or Synthesizing, Ideas through Beauty, Optimism, and Leadership by its fully driven and enthusiastic Supreme Student Government (SSG) leaders and moderators. This was music to everyone’s ears as it truly denotes the journey of NDTC SHS, “sumisibol pa lamang” or it is a flower, newly planted and springing beautifully.
The streets of Tacurong City had a glimpse of the different Philippine festivals as the four teams (Mutants of Masskara, Divergents of Kadayawan, Tributes of Ati-Atihan, and Peculiars of Panagbenga) painted the city beige, gray, maroon, and turquoise. This was followed by a banner raising and a cosplay or costume competition.
One of the most anticipated was the Festival Dance Competition. The different teams surprised everyone with their colorful and heart-warming festival dances with touches of fantasy. Surely, the judges found it very hard to pick the winner but the Mutants of Masskara succeeded in bringing home the bacon. Where everyone enjoyed a great battle of the band, a firework display concluded the first day.
Each student for his own team, everyone cheered for their players, since every athlete was so eager to be announced as champions in the different indoor and outdoor games which were held on the second and third day. Festival of Talents followed where there was a battle of socio-cultural competitions: Dance Trio, Birit Queens, Gaya Mo’to, Your Face Sounds Familiar, and Lyrical Hiphop. Succeeding these, was the talent presentation of the candidates for the Search for the Ambassadors of Senior High School (AOS) 2017 which the final event was spectacularly held evening of the third day.
AOS 2017 offered two very elusive but exquisite crowns. And the heads that have not just the honor but also the responsibility to wear these prestigious jewels are Ambassador Ryan Archie B. Gabiazon and Ambassadress Angellie Amor R. Palconite. They will be pursuing their promising advocacy for the rest of the school year.
SIBOL 2017 was undeniably a very successful event. Every team competed fair and square. Talents and beauty were showcased. Expectations were exceeded. And for the team who was hailed as the over-all champion, the Mutants of the Maskara, the STEM-12 (graduating) students, it may be their first SHS intramural celebration, but it was a very memorable one.
